“Pakistan batters don’t want to become slip fielders”: Wasim Akram on the difference between India and the Men in Green in the fielding department

India had a good day in the field in the first innings of Australia in the series opener in Perth. Although Virat Kohli dropped a simple catch, other chances were grabbed. Even Kohli managed to take one catch.

Former Pakistan player Wasim Akram mentioned that batters are kept in the slip cordon because of their quick reflexes. “Batters always become good fielders. They are preferred in the slips and the bowlers because of their good and quick reflexes.

“There have been only a few instances when bowlers stood in the slips. India has improved a lot in the catering department and other areas of fielding,” he said.

“However, when it comes to Pakistan, we are still struggling. Our batters don’t want to stand in the slip cordon due to fear of dropping catches. If you think that you can’t catch a ball, you will definitely drop a catch as it plays on your mind.

“On the last tour of Australia, Pakistan were impressive, but their catching let the team down,” Wasim Akram said on Star Sports.

Sanjay Manjrekar hailed the Indian team for improving their catching. “Yashasvi Jaiswal is good in the gully region. He has taken some sensational catches in this area. Shubman Gill is one of the greatest fielders. He is not playing in this Test,” Sanjay Manjrekar said.
