Pakistan is jealous, will now make its own film on Lyari’s story

Overview: Pakistan jealous of Dhurandhar’s success

Seeing the success of Dhurandhar, Pakistan is feeling uneasy. Pakistan has also announced to make its own film to show the story of Lyari.

Pakistani Movie Mera Layari: Ranveer Singh Starrer and film directed by Aditya Dhar stalwart These days it is breaking records at the box office, but it is being discussed not only in India but also across the border in Pakistan, where this film has not even been released. The story of ‘Dhurandhar’ mainly focuses on the Lyari town of Karachi between 1999 and 2009 and it has come into controversy due to its portrayal. Seeing the success of Dhurandhar, Pakistan is feeling very uneasy. That is why Pakistan has also announced to make its own separate film to show the story of Lyari.

Lyari was a bastion of violence and terror

The first half of the film shows Lyari as an extremely violent and lawless area, plagued by serious problems during that decade such as gang wars, police raids, drug trafficking, arms race and most importantly, terrorism. Ranveer Singh’s character Hamza Ali Mazari reaches Pakistan and ends up in these dark streets of Lyari. The area was once considered the most dangerous city in Pakistan due to the high rates of gang violence in Karachi, and ‘Dhurandhar’ brings this image to life.

Notorious criminals of Karachi like Rehman Dacoit, played by Akshaye Khanna in the film, used to conduct their criminal activities in Lyari. On the other hand, there were also brave police officers like SP Chaudhary Aslam Khan, who single-handedly tried to eradicate gangs from the area.

Pakistan’s counterattack on Dhurandhar

Apparently, Pakistani officials have strong objection to this portrayal of ‘Dhurandhar’. The film’s director Aditya Dhar had earlier also made ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’, which does not depict Pakistan in a positive light. They consider ‘Dhurandhar’ as a misrepresentation and propaganda of Lyari. In an effort to counter Indian perceptions, the Sindh Information Department has taken a unique step. He has announced that he will release a film titled ‘Mera Layari’ in the next month i.e. January 2026. The film claims to show Lyari in its true light.

Pakistan’s statement regarding Dhurandhar

Sindh Information Department in a message on social media said, “Truth cannot be erased by misrepresentation. Lyari is a symbol of culture, peace and perseverance, not violence. While bigots are spreading misinformation, ‘Mera Lyari’ will soon tell the true story of pride and prosperity. Indian propaganda against Lyari will never succeed.”

When will the second part of Dhurandhar be released?

The success of ‘Dhurandhar’ shows that the film has sparked a debate not only at the box office but also on the political and cultural front. Even though the Sindh Information Department is planning to release ‘Mera Layari’ in January, it probably won’t make much difference to the makers of ‘Dhurandhar’. His next big preparation is: The second part of ‘Dhurandhar’ is going to release in theaters on March 19.
