Pakistan Kapoor family property: Clouds of trouble are looming over an important heritage related to the history of Indian cinema. A part of Raj Kapoor’s family’s ancestral mansion in Peshawar has collapsed. Rain and earthquake have further weakened this already dilapidated building, which has increased concerns about its safety.
Rain and earthquake increased the damage
This nearly 100 year old mansion located in Peshawar was in a bad condition for a long time. Continuous heavy rains weakened its walls, while the recent earthquake worsened the situation. It is being told that due to these reasons a part of the mansion suddenly collapsed.
Administration expressed concern, demanded protection
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Heritage Council officials have expressed concern after this incident. He says that the rest of the mansion is also in danger and if repairs are not made soon, more damage may occur. The administration has appealed to the Archeology Department and the government for immediate intervention, so that this historical building can be saved.
Historical house of Kapoor family
This mansion has been the ancestral property of the Kapoor family, which was built by Dewan Basheshwarnath Kapoor between 1918 and 1922. Prithvi Raj Kapoor started his acting career from this house. It was here that Raj Kapoor and Trilok Kapoor were born. It is said that there are about 40 rooms in this mansion, which reflect the rich architecture of that period. After the partition of 1947, the Kapoor family settled in Mumbai and this mansion gradually became a victim of neglect. Rishi Kapoor and Randhir Kapoor came here in the 1990s, but after that no concrete steps were taken towards conservation.
Incomplete plan from heritage to museum
The Government of Pakistan had declared this mansion as a national heritage in 2016 and a plan was made to convert it into a museum. However, now after a part of it has collapsed, the question has arisen as to when the conservation and reconstruction work will start.
