Karachi Gas Explosion: Tragic accident in Pakistan, 16 including many children lost their lives
Karachi Gas Explosion Death: At least 16 people, including many children, were killed and 14 others were injured in a massive explosion caused by a suspected gas leak in a residential building in Karachi, Pakistan on Thursday morning.
According to police, the blast took place around 4:30 am on the first floor of a building in Old Soldier Bazaar area, when people were awake for Sehri. The first day of Ramzan is being celebrated in Pakistan today.
Explosion caused by gas leak
Initial investigation shows that the blast was caused by a gas leak. Officials said due to chronic gas shortage in Pakistan’s largest city, many families, especially in low-income areas, depend on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders for daily household use.
Police surgeon Dr. Samaya Syed confirmed that till now 14 dead bodies have been brought to the hospital from the blast site, while 14 injured people are still undergoing treatment. The condition of some injured is said to be serious.
Search operation continues
Due to the blast, a part of the building collapsed due to its poor condition. Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan said, “We are still searching in the debris to see if there are any more bodies or survivors.” At least nine of those killed were children aged between two and 17 years, while seven children were also among the injured.
This is the second major tragedy in Karachi. Last month, a fire broke out in the basement of Gul Shopping Plaza, a wholesale and retail market, in Sadar area, killing at least 79 people and injuring many.
