Pakistan lockdown Due to Air Pollution: Air becomes 'death' in Lahore and Multan, AQI crosses 2000, health emergency declared
New Delhi. The situation has become worse due to increasing air pollution in India's neighboring country Pakistan. Pakistan's Punjab government has imposed a complete lockdown in Lahore and Multan for three days next week due to the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching dangerous levels. Complete lockdown has been imposed in two cities of Punjab province, Lahore and Multan. The situation due to pollution is so bad that AQI has crossed 2000 in Multan city, while AQI in Lahore continues to remain above 1100.

Pak media reports say that the Punjab government has imposed a complete lockdown in Lahore and Multan due to the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching dangerous levels. According to the report of ARY News, the situation in Punjab's capital Lahore and Multan has become worst. The price here has gone above 2000 twice in a few days. Because of this, Lahore remains at the top in the list of most polluted cities in the world.
Punjab's senior provincial minister Maryam Aurangzeb, in a press conference, stressed the serious health risks posed by smog and pollution, saying that this has caused a public health crisis and people are suffering from respiratory diseases. He compared it to the dangers experienced during COVID-19. In view of the increasing levels of pollution, the Punjab government has announced the closure of schools up to higher secondary level till November 24.
In the neighboring Punjab province, more than 600,000 people have been affected by pollution-related diseases in just one week. More than 65,000 people have been hospitalized in the past week. In view of this, the provincial government has canceled the leaves of paramedical staff and extended the OPD timings till 8 pm.
Apart from this, health emergency has also been imposed in Peshawar and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of Pakistan. During the lockdown in Punjab, apart from closing schools and colleges, all types of transport services have also been stopped, while hotels and restaurants have been instructed to remain closed after 8 pm. All private offices have been ordered to run with 50 percent work force.
