Massive No-Ball Sparks Spot-Fixing Suspicions, ‘Maybe His Coach is Mohammad Amir’ Trends Among Fans

A gigantic no-ball from a Pakistani bowler during the National T20 Cup has sparked a meme fest on the social media platform of X. With Pakistan having a chequered history with no balls and spot fixing, fans were reminded of former Pakistan speedster Mohammad Amir, who was banned for five years for a similar offence.

Fans say the no ball in National T20 Cup is a bigger one than Mohammad Amir’s:

A highly promising left-arm fast bowler, Amir had troubled several batters when he first came into international cricket and played a pivotal role in Pakistan’s T20 World Cup victory in 2009. However, his career took a turn for the worse after it came out that Amir had bowled no-balls during the Lord’s Test in England in 2010 in exchange of a massive sum of money. Teammates Mohammad Asif and then captain Salman Butt were also involved as the trio copped heavy punishments.

While Asif and Butt never played for Pakistan again, Amir returned in 2015 to don the national colours once more. Since returning, the 33-year-old’s best performance came against Team India in the 2017 Champions Trophy final at the Kia Oval when Amir tore through their top-order. His spell of 6-2-16-3 helped the Men in Green thwart India by 180 runs in the tournament-decider to clinch the Champions Trophy for the first time. Amir had retired from international cricket in December 2020, citing ill-treatment from PCB but returned. His last fixture came in T20 World Cup 2024 and he retired for one final time in December 2024.
