Pakistan sent ammunition and weapons via drone; NIA to investigate plot of terrorist attack in India

Pakistan is plotting to carry out terrorist attacks in India with arms, ammunition and explosives

New Delhi. NIA has started investigating smuggling of arms and ammunition through drones on the India-Pakistan border. The NIA suspects that this smuggling may be part of a wider conspiracy to carry out terrorist attacks in India.

Acting on the directions of the Union Home Ministry, the anti-terrorism agency has registered a case to probe the role of Pakistan-based terrorist Jasvir Chaudhary, his Indian associate Shubham Kumar and other unidentified persons. The case was originally registered by Punjab Police in February this year.

He said the Amritsar-based State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) had received credible information that on the instructions of Chaudhary, his Indian associates had obtained a large consignment of arms, ammunition and sophisticated explosive devices (IEDs) through drones on the India-Pakistan border, which were intended to carry out blasts in Punjab, Delhi and other parts of the country.

The state police had registered a case in this regard on February 10. The Home Ministry said in its order that the case pertains to a criminal conspiracy hatched by a foreign element to carry out terrorist acts in India using arms, ammunition and explosives.

The order said that considering the gravity of the crime, its serious security implications, national and international connections and the need to uncover the wider conspiracy, it is necessary to be investigated by the NIA. Last month, NIA had also registered a case to investigate the weapons drop case in Punjab.
