Pakistan broke its promise! 72 shells rained on Afghanistan before Eid, tension at its peak in Kunar

Pakistan Afghanistan Ceasefire Violation: Peace efforts between Afghanistan and Pakistan have once again suffered a major setback. In view of the holy festival of Eid-ul-Fitr, the Pakistani Army has opened heavy shelling in Kunar province of Afghanistan, breaking the temporary ceasefire agreement between the two countries. According to official reports, the Pakistani Army has so far fired 72 shells in various districts of Kunar. The attack came at a time when both sides had recently agreed to stop fighting and reduce tensions.

Zia-ur-Rehman Spin Ghar, head of Kunar’s information department, confirmed that the shelling was mainly in Narai and Manogai districts. According to details, 35 shells fell in Dokalam, Barikot and Songalai areas of Narai district, while 37 shells were fired in different parts of Manogai district. Afghan officials allege that the Pakistani army is deliberately targeting civilians who were returning to their homes after the ceasefire was announced. However, no official information about any casualty has been received so far in this shelling.

This shelling is also worrying because Pakistan’s Information Minister Ataullah Tarar himself had announced that the ceasefire will remain in force from midnight of 18/19 March to 23/24 March. On the other hand, Afghan government spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid also confirmed that their security forces will remain on the defensive during Eid. Pakistan had clarified that if there is any attack from across the border then it will resume military operations. After the latest attack, the future of Ceasefire now hangs in the balance.

‘Operation Awesome-Lil-Haq’

The roots of this entire incident lie in Pakistan’s ‘Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq’ are hidden in. Pakistan claims that so far 707 Afghan Taliban personnel have been killed and about 938 have been injured in this major military operation.

Pakistani army spokesman Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry defended the shelling, saying they targeted weapons warehouses and drone storage centres. Pakistan alleges that Taliban fighters carry out attacks by hiding in the clothes of civilians, which makes it difficult to differentiate between them. At present, there are reports of continued shelling in Narai district and high alert has been declared in the border areas.
