Harry Brook breaks Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar’s record with 4th Test century in Pakistan

New Delhi: England batter Harry Brook broke the legendary Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid’s record with a brilliant century in the 1st Test against Pakistan in Multan on Wednesday. It was Brook’s 4th Test ton in Pakistan which helped him go past the likes of Dravid and Gavaskar in the elite list of visiting batters with the most Test tons in Pakistan.

Brook notched up his hundred off just 118 balls and finished the day unbeaten on 141 off 173 balls laced with 12 fours and a solitary six. The England batter was looked in fabulous touch and mixed caution with aggression during his knock to take the Pakistan bowlers to the cleaners on a belter of a track in Multan.

Brook and Root slammed centuries apiece to help England post 492/3 at stumps on Day 1, trailing Pakistan’s first innings total of 556 runs by only 64 runs. While Brook remained unbeaten on 141, Root slammed 176 not out as the duo combined to share an unbeaten stand of 243 runs for the 4th wicket. It was Brook’s 4th successive ton in Pakistan, helping him equal the record for most Test centuries in Pakistan by a visiting batter.

He equalled the record held jointly by former Sri Lanka batter Aravinda de Silva and ex-India all-rounder Mohinder Amarnath, who both struck 4 centuries in Tests in Pakistan. However, Brook has managed to achieve the stellar feat in just six innings compared to De Silva’s 17 and Amarnath’s 18.

25-year-old Brook became the first batter in the world to hit a century in four consecutive Test matches in Pakistan. He slammed a brilliant knock of 153 runs in his debut Test match in Pakistan in Rawalpindi in December 2022 and followed it up with a 108-run knock in his second Test in Pakistan which was in Multan.

Brook hammered a 111-run knock in Rawalpindi to complete a hat-trick of Test centuries in Pakistan before making it 4 tons in 4 matches on Wednesday. Brook has so far managed a total of six centuries in 19 matches in his Test career, of which 4 have come in Pakistan. Brook has so far amassed 609 runs in 4 Tests at an exceptional average of 121.80 in Pakistan.
