Pakistani Army has not yet forgotten this wound, it cannot forget it either.

(Alkesh Patel) Ahmedabad, December 16, 2025: 1971 War Vijay Diwas Today 16th December. The victory day 54 years ago. This is the day of yet another defeat for Pakistani Army. Just as there is talk of Operation Sindoor everywhere, similarly in the last month of 1971, the Indian Army had defeated the Pakistani Army in just 13 days of war on the soil of then East Pakistan and today’s Bangladesh.

This was a major defeat for the Pakistani Army and 93,000 of their soldiers laid down their weapons and surrendered. The Indian Army and especially the Indian Air Force played the most important role in the victory.

To commemorate this victory day, Indian Air Force spokesperson has also shared a post paying grand tribute to the victorious soldiers of the 1971 war. Wing Commander Abhishek Kumar Tiwari has written that, on 14 December 1971, the Indian air force had accurately targeted Pakistani forces at Dhaka University. Then on December 15, MiG-21 and Hunter war planes destroyed the enemy forces. By the evening of that day, ground firing had stopped and along with paving the way for India’s victory, Bangladesh was also liberated.

“On the eve of Victory Day, let us salute the unmatched bravery of the Indian Air Force during the India-Pakistan war of 1971.

On 14 December 1971, the Indian Air Force targeted Pakistani positions along Dhaka University, followed by sustained MiG-21 and Hunter sorties on 15 December, destroying enemy defences. By evening the firing on the ground stopped – paving the way for India’s historic victory and the birth of Bangladesh.

“Their courage, precision and sacrifice remind us of the indomitable spirit that protects our nation.”

In fact, there was a huge dispute on the language issue between the then West Pakistan and East Pakistan. East Pakistan was concerned about its Bengali language. But Pakistani authorities were imposing Urdu language. The political parties and people of East Pakistan refused to accept Urdu and separated from India on the basis of religion and started extraordinary inhuman atrocities on the East Pakistanis. Due to this, an organization named Bangla Mukti Bahini was formed. This organization launched a movement to separate from Pakistan. To suppress this movement, the Pakistani army did not stop its atrocities and then the Bangla Mukti Bahini sought India’s help. Due to which Pakistani army tried to attack India also. Apparently, this action of the Pakistanis was a call for war and then the Indian Army, especially the Indian Air Force, carried out a military operation with great planning and courage and brought the Pakistani forces present in East Pakistan to their knees. In just 13 days of action, the Pakistani army accepted surrender and with it the path for the creation of a separate country named Bangladesh was paved.

It is a different matter that the present authorities of Bangladesh have given shelter to fundamentalists and take steps against India, but India’s leading role in their liberation in 1971 is well known to most of the Bangladeshis including the countries of the world.

Apart from Operation Sindoor, Operation “Indoor” is also equally important: Lieutenant General (Retd) Dushyant Singh
