Pakistan’s first Sindhi feature film premieres at Jaipur Film Festival
After nearly 28 years, Pakistan’s first Sindhi feature film, Sindhu Ji Goonj will be showcased at the Jaipur Film Festival.
The premiere of Sindhu Ji Goonj also known as Indus Echo will take place on January 21, 2025 marking a historic moment for Pakistan’s film industry.
This feature film is the first Sindhi film since Himmat was released in cinemas in 1997.
Written and directed by Rahul Ijaz, the film’s story revolves around the River Indus, its impact on the lives of its people and the relationships between the river and its inhabitants. The film will depict five different stories.
The production of the film was made possible through the international collaboration of three film studios: Film ‘n’ Chips Media Productions, Sham Films and South Korea’s Big Meta Films.
The film is a joint production of Pakistan, South Korea and Bangladesh with renowned Pakistani actor Shamoon Abbasi serving as the executive producer.
The world premiere of Sindhu Ji Goonj was held in Karachi on January 16, 2025 at Cinepax Cinemas Ocean Mall.
Film enthusiasts across Pakistan are eagerly awaiting the film’s release in cinemas though the official release date has yet to be announced.
On January 21, Sindhu Ji Goonj will be presented at the Jaipur Film Festival.
The film is considered a new chapter for the Sindhi film industry offering a platform to share local culture and stories across borders.
