Pakistan’s ‘masterstroke’ in Trump’s crypto diplomacy: This is how the duo of Sharif and Munir entered the White House

A new and very vicious move of Pakistan has come to light in the corridors of global politics. It is reported that the duo of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Asim Munir used a ‘crypto card’ to woo US President Donald Trump and gain direct access to power in Washington. Experts believe that this crypto agreement, made with the promise of millions of dollars, was actually less economic and more diplomatic, which has brought Pakistan very close to the Trump administration. Crypto deal became the medium of ‘access’. The matter is related to the Trump family’s crypto company ‘World Liberty Financial’ (WLF). In January this year, the Finance Ministry of Pakistan had signed an MoU with the company’s associate firm ‘SC Financial Technologies’. The idea was to use the ‘USD1 stablecoin’ for cross-border payments. The presence of Shehbaz Sharif, Asim Munir and Trump’s close aide Jack Witcalf at the time of the agreement made headlines. However, even after 6 months, neither any project was started nor any transaction took place, but the real objective of Pakistan was fulfilled. Political gains and Pakistan becoming Trump’s ‘special guest’ Experts claim that this crypto deal opened the closed doors of diplomacy for Pakistan. Since the agreement, the closeness between the two countries has increased. Pakistan took a big step like nominating Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. In response, Trump invited Army Chief of Staff Asim Munir to a special luncheon at the White House in June 2025—a rare honor. Not only this, Pakistan’s mediation in the Iran-Israel conflict and recent public praise of Munir by US Vice President JD Vance are believed to be the result of this ‘crypto diplomacy’. ‘Pay for Access’: Crypto on paper, power play in reality Economists believe this entire effort "pay for access" (Pay-for-Access) was part of the strategy. Trump’s earnings figures related to crypto companies are also in the news, where his family has made huge profits through crypto tokens last year. Sensing this ‘business-diplomacy’, Pakistan found a way to get closer to the Trump administration. Even though the crypto project is currently on hold, it has proved to be the most successful use of ‘soft power’ for Pakistan, which has again brought it to the center of international politics.
