PAN Card New Rules: The face of PAN card will change from April 1! One small mistake and a heavy bill will be issued
New Delhi: If you have a PAN card or are thinking of getting a new one, then this news is very important for you. Many major changes related to PAN card are going to be implemented from April 1. These new provisions will have a direct impact on everything from your bank transactions to purchasing property. The government’s aim is to make the rules more stringent so that tax evasion can be prevented, but at the same time the documentation process has also been streamlined in some cases. The most surprising thing is that now Aadhar card alone will not be enough to make a new PAN card.
Making a new PAN card will no longer be so easy
Till now PAN card was easily made through Aadhar card, but the rules are changing from April 1. Now applicants will have to provide some other documents besides Aadhaar to verify their identity and date of birth (DOB). The list of accepted documents includes birth certificate, voter ID, 10th class certificate, passport, driving license or an affidavit issued by a magistrate. So, if you are going to apply, keep these documents ready in advance so that there is no delay in the process. Another important thing is that your name recorded on the PAN card should now match exactly with the information on the Aadhar card.
The application form is going to be changed
The government has now prescribed specific forms for different categories. From April 1, you will have to choose the form according to your category. It will be mandatory to use Form 93 for individuals, Form 94 for companies, Form 95 for foreign nationals and Form 96 for foreign entities. Your application may be canceled if the form is filled incorrectly.
Rules for bank transactions and vehicle purchases
Major relaxations have been given in the rules for depositing and withdrawing cash. Now PAN card information will have to be given only when the total deposit or withdrawal in a financial year is more than Rs 10 lakh. At present, PAN has to be given on depositing Rs 50,000 in a day. At the same time, there is good news for car buyers also. Now PAN card will be required only when the price of the vehicle is more than Rs 5 lakh. PAN will not be mandatory for vehicles priced lower than this.
Insurance and property deals will be affected
The rules in the insurance sector have now become more strict. Earlier, PAN was mandatory for premium of more than Rs 50,000, but now it will be mandatory to provide PAN card while taking every new insurance policy, no matter how low the premium amount is. On the other hand, there is relief news for property lovers. The limit for providing PAN information in a property deal, which is currently Rs 10 lakh, will be increased to Rs 20 lakh from April 1. That means there will be no hassle of PAN in deals up to Rs 20 lakh.
New limit on hotel and restaurant bills
If you make cash payment for hotels, restaurants or any big event, now you will not need to provide PAN card on bills up to Rs 1 lakh. At present this limit is Rs 50,000. The government has tried to create this balance to promote digital transactions and keep an eye on large cash transactions.
Take special care of these things while applying
To avoid any kind of legal complications or fine, first check the name and spelling entered in your Aadhaar. Make sure you have original documents proving your date of birth, such as a passport or birth certificate. Use only the new and revised forms from April 1, 2026. You may have to pay heavy fine if you ignore the rules, so be alert and update your documents in time.
