Pannun Case: Nikhil Gupta confessed his crime, will he now be jailed for 20 years in America?

News India Live, Digital Desk: A major twist has come in the case of the alleged conspiracy to murder Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. Indian citizen Nikhil Gupta, who was extradited to the US from the Czech Republic, has now indicated to plead guilty in a US court. This development has intensified the stir in the diplomatic corridors of India and America. What is the whole controversy and the American demand? American prosecutors allege that Nikhil Gupta had tried to pay a ‘hitman’ (shooter) to murder Pannu on the instructions of an alleged ‘Indian government official’. Secret operation: The person whom Nikhil thought was the shooter, was actually an American investigative agency DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) According to the law, he can face a maximum jail term of 20 years. However, in case of ‘Plea Bargain’ i.e. confession of crime, there is a possibility of reduction in punishment. Government of India has denied any involvement in this matter. However, after the US shared the evidence, India has formed a high-level inquiry committee which is investigating the facts of the case.
