There is going to be a big legal change regarding love marriage in Gujarat. The state government is preparing for such an ordinance, under which the approval of the girl’s parents will be necessary before marriage (Parental Consent Marriage India). sub Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi After the recent meeting chaired by the Cabinet, this proposal is likely to be brought in the next Cabinet meeting. If it is approved, it will be considered an important and debate-provoking step in the marriage laws of the country.
Both the ruling party and the opposition seem to be in unison regarding this proposal. BJP and Congress leaders have publicly said that such a law should be made so that families do not have to face mental and social problems. He argues that in many cases, families are not even aware of love marriage and later disputes, complaints and social tensions arise.
Social pressure and long standing demand
In Gujarat, especially the representatives of Patidar community have been demanding for a long time to give legal recognition to the role of parents in love marriage (Parental Consent Marriage India). Society leaders say that due to emotional decisions taken in adolescence or early age, girls often run away from home and get married, due to which they and their families later have to suffer the consequences.
Leaders belonging to the Patidar community had recently met the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister and suggested that in cases of love marriage, a notice should be sent to the parents at the address recorded in the girl’s Aadhaar card and their opinion should be taken within a period of one month. They believe that this will curb cases of hasty marriages and possible exploitation.
Network of secret marriages also came to light
Some time ago, such temples were revealed in North and Central Gujarat, whose addresses were found recorded in hundreds of marriage registration documents (Parental Consent Marriage India). Investigation revealed that many temples existed only on paper. The address of a temple in Godhra area was used in more than a hundred marriages. Later, during interrogation of villagers and local representatives, it was revealed that an organized gang of Patwari and Pandits were active behind such marriages.
Keeping these incidents in mind, the government started considering monitoring the cases related to love marriage and controlling the process. Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi has discussed the issue in detail with the Law Minister and other senior officials. It is being told that a draft of an ordinance related to this can be presented in the cabinet meeting to be held on Wednesday.
