IIT Kharagpur student suicide: A 21-year-old student studying at IIT-Kharagpur committed suicide. The student was found dead in his hostel room on Sunday. According to the information given by the police, student Shaun Malik lived in room number 302 of Azad Hall of IIT-Kharagpur and was studying third year of Electrical Engineering.

The reason for suicide is not clear

A 21-year-old student has died at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. The cause of death is not yet known, but it is suspected that the student has committed suicide. According to the information, when the parents of a Kolkata student opened the student’s hostel room, they found their son’s body hanging in the room. Police have recovered the body and sent it to Medinipur Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. Also, the police team has started investigating the matter.

Studied in Electrical Engineering Department

Shaun Malik was a resident of Kolkata. He was studying in the third year of the Electrical Engineering department of IIT Kharagpur. On Sunday his parents came from Kolkata to meet him. When his parents opened the door of the hostel room, they found their son’s body hanging. Seeing his son in this condition, he started screaming, after which IIT security guards arrived and the police was informed.

Every Sunday his parents brought food for him.

Regarding this, IIT Kharagpur Director Amit Patra expressed grief over this incident and said, ‘The reason for taking this step is not yet clear. Because we have not found any suicide note.

The director of IIT Kharagpur further said, ‘The student’s parents used to come to meet him every Sunday, this Sunday also they came to meet him with food and saw the hanging body of their son in the hostel. The boy was very good in studies. Nothing suspicious was found in the room. Apart from this, Shaun also had good relations with his teachers. A few days ago a lab assistant had died. But this has nothing to do with it.

Many such incidents have happened in IIT in the last few years.

Many students have already committed suicide in IIT Kharagpur. The mysterious death of Faizan Ahmed of Tinsukia district of Assam on 14 October 2022 is still shrouded in mystery. After this, in October 2023, the body of a fourth year electrical engineering student named Kiran Chandra was found. In June 2024, the hanging body of a student named Devika Pillai was found. Now this year two new cases have come to light. Police are investigating all the cases.
