Paresh Rawal’s big claim regarding ‘OMG 2’, said – My original story was changed, no credit was given even for the concept
New Delhi . Actor Paresh Rawal has made a claim regarding the film ‘OMG 2’ which has once again brought this famous film into the headlines. He says that the basic story and initial concept of the film was developed from his idea, which was prepared in collaboration with director Amit Rai. However, major changes were later made to the film’s script and he received no official credit for the original idea. After this statement, a new discussion has started regarding the production of the film and its creative process.
According to Paresh Rawal, the story that was worked on in the initial stage was a social drama based on a father and son relationship. It was to prominently feature sensitive topics related to teenagers, sex education, social humiliation and a father’s struggle for the respect of his child. He clarified that the initial story did not feature any deities or divine characters and it was not intended to be a sequel to the ‘OMG’ franchise.
The actor said that later when the nature of the project changed and the film was developed to a new level, the direction of the story became completely different. According to him, it was after this change that he decided to walk away from the project as he felt that the film had strayed too far from the original idea on which he had initially worked.
Paresh Rawal expressed the most disappointment that he was not given any credit for the original concept or story. He says that this is not only a matter of personal respect but also a matter of rights related to creative work. He claimed that many prominent people in the film industry were aware of where the initial idea came from and how it was worked on at an early stage.
He also revealed that his initial talks with director Amit Rai were based on the story of a student whose life gets affected after a personal incident becomes public. In this difficult situation, his father challenges the thinking of the society and fights for his son’s honor and justice. Paresh Rawal believes that this story was the basic soul of the film, which was later given a different direction.
The actor also said that despite getting an offer to act in the film, he did not accept it. According to him, when he saw the final script he realized that it did not match the story in which he had played a role in developing. For this reason he thought it appropriate to maintain distance from the film.
It is noteworthy that ‘OMG 2’, released in the year 2023, was widely discussed regarding its subject and presentation. The film had to undergo multiple levels of reviews and revisions during the certification process. After necessary changes, it was allowed to be screened and the film also gave a new direction to the debate on social issues. Now Paresh Rawal’s recent statement has given rise to a new debate regarding the creative aspect related to the production of the film. His claims also raise questions about how important the process of giving proper credit to original ideas and creative contributions is during the development of films.
