If you park a truck on the highway, it will be expensive, strict order of the Supreme Court, now the old ways will end.
Highway Safety: In view of the increasing road accidents in India, the Supreme Court has given an important and strict decision. The court has given instructions to completely ban parking of heavy and commercial vehicles on the highway. According to statistics, the share of highways in the total road network of the country is only about 2%, but the accidents occurring here reach almost 30%. This is why this big step has been taken to improve this serious situation.
Will not allow the highway to become a danger route
The Supreme Court has clearly said that highways and expressways are built for high-speed traffic, and not for accidents. “If even one life is lost due to illegal parking, blackspots or poor system, it will be considered a major failure of the system.” This strict stance of the court clearly indicates that negligence will no longer be tolerated.
Now trucks will not park on the highway
Under the new order, now no truck or commercial vehicle can be parked on the main road or side of the highway. Parking of vehicles will be allowed only in designated parking zones, lay-bys or authorized places. This rule is necessary because trucks parked on the roadside, especially at night, cause major accidents.
Strict action will be taken through technology
Modern technology will be used to implement this rule. Immediate action will be taken against rule breakers through Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS), GPS based photo evidence and e-challan system. NHAI, State Police and Transport Department will work together in this work. The Supreme Court has set a time limit of 60 days to implement this entire system. Also, DM of every district has been given the responsibility of preparing SOP and implementing it strictly.
Crackdown will also fall on illegal dhabas and shops
The court has also taken a tough stance on the encroachment taking place along the highway. Now new dhabas or shops will not be built within the limits of the highway. The illegal constructions already existing have been ordered to be removed within 60 days. Besides, the licenses already given will also be reviewed.

Special team will be formed for highway safety
To strengthen road safety, Highway Safety Task Force will be formed at the district level. This team will monitor and take corrective steps as needed.
Better infrastructure will increase security
Better lighting, surveillance systems and safe truck parking (lay-by) at regular intervals will be developed in accident-affected areas. Overall, this decision of the Supreme Court is being considered a big and necessary step towards strengthening road safety.
