Opposition prepares to press key issues

The Monsoon Session will run from July 20 to August 13. Opposition parties are expected to raise several issues, including the NEET-UG paper leak, the demand for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and activist Sonam Wangchuk’s hospitalization after his protest at Jantar Mantar.

The Congress has also indicated it will seek discussions on foreign policy developments, the Ram Temple donation controversy, education-related issues and other matters of public importance during the session.

Legislative agenda in focus

The government is expected to introduce and discuss several Bills during the 19-day session. According to opposition leaders, the all-party meeting will provide clarity on the legislative business scheduled for the coming weeks.

DMK MP Tiruchi Siva said such meetings have traditionally been attended by the Prime Minister, adding that in recent years the Defense Minister has represented the government. He said political parties would decide their parliamentary strategy after learning the government’s legislative priorities.

Political developments likely to impact session

The session comes amid recent political realignments, including a split among Trinamool Congress MPs and changes in the strength of opposition parties in Parliament. The Congress has alleged that the government is attempting to strengthen its parliamentary numbers and has said it will oppose any move that it believes undermines constitutional principles.

With both the government and the Opposition preparing to press their agendas, the Monsoon Session is expected to witness intense debates on legislative proposals as well as major political and national issues.
