Parliament Session: VB-G-Ram-Ji Bill 2025 passed amid huge uproar in Lok Sabha, opposition tore papers in the House
New Delhi. The Lok Sabha on Thursday passed the Developed India Guarantee Mission for Employment and Livelihood (Rural) VB-Ji Ram-ji (Developed India Ji Ram Ji) Bill 2025 amid heavy uproar and protests by the opposition. Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan, while replying to the discussion that lasted till midnight on Wednesday on the VB-Ji-Ram-Ji Bill replacing MNREGA, said that through this bill, work has been done to keep Bapu’s ideals alive by changing the lives of women, youth and the poor.
This will change the lives of the poor and establish an ideal village in which people will have all kinds of facilities within their reach. He said that we do not discriminate against anyone. Bapu is our inspiration and faith. The whole country is one for us. Our thoughts are not narrow and constricted. Congress had completely handed over MNREGA to corruption. He said that Congress does not want to listen to the government’s reply. He said that in reality MNREGA funds have been misused. On the other hand, our government has done the work of spending on development works.
He said that this bill will benefit the farmers and the poor. He said that NREGA was not started in the name of Mahatma Gandhi. Keeping in mind the vote bank before the 2009 elections, he had added the name of Mahatma Gandhi in it. He said that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) spent only Rs 2.13 lakh crore on this during its tenure whereas the Modi government has spent Rs 8.53 lakh crore on this since 2014.
He said that earlier there was corruption in it but Modi government has made it corruption free. The Rural Development Minister rejected the allegations of Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government changes the names of the schemes as per its own wish. Responding to this allegation, he listed several welfare programs in the name of members of the Nehru-Gandhi family and argued that Congress has a long history of linking names for political gain.
He also accused the Congress of betraying the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and said that the party accepted the partition of India and ignored Gandhi’s call to dissolve the Congress after independence. Congress itself abolished Gandhian principles. He said that the work of this scheme is written in the name of this bill itself.
In this scheme, we are guaranteeing employment and enriching the livelihood. Through this, a prosperous and glorious India is being built. Developed villages are being built for developed India. He said that a new bill was brought in place of MNREGA so that the uneven distribution of funds among the states could be corrected. MNREGA had been handed over to corruption and it was necessary to fix it.
The idea was to remove these shortcomings so that MNREGA is used properly and the money is used properly. Amendments were brought in MNREGA after extensive discussions. During the Union Minister’s reply, the opposition kept raising slogans against the bill in the middle of the House. Amidst the uproar, Shivraj Singh gave his answer. During this, some members tore papers and flew them near the seat.
During this, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that the people of the country have not sent you here to throw papers. This is also not in accordance with parliamentary traditions. Despite the Speaker’s request, the uproar did not stop, then the proceedings of the House were adjourned for the day.
