Part of Raj Kapoor’s mansion collapsed in earthquake, demand raised for safety and repair of the mansion in Pakistan
Tezzbuzz Desk- The condition of Kapoor Haveli, which is part of the heritage of Bollywood’s famous Kapoor family, has become a matter of concern. This historical mansion located in Peshawar has suffered serious damage due to the recent earthquake in Pakistan and continuous heavy rains. A part of the mansion collapsed due to Friday night’s earthquake and officials are worried about the safety of its preserved structure.
Kapoor Haveli has great historical importance. It was built by Raj Kapoor’s grandfather Devan Basheshwarnath Kapoor between 1918 and 1922. This is the place where Prithviraj Kapoor spent a large part of his life and Raj Kapoor and his uncle Trilok Kapoor were also born here. The mansion has a total of 40 rooms and was the center of attraction in Peshawar when it was built.
However, after 1947, this mansion became deserted and due to lack of timely repairs, its condition gradually deteriorated. Shashi Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor also used to come and stay here at one time, but now its condition has become very critical.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Heritage Council Secretary Shakeel Wahidullah said that it is very important to take immediate steps to conserve the earthquake affected area. He has appealed to the Archeology Department and the Government to take concrete action for the repair and conservation of Kapoor Haveli and this historical building.
This mansion is not only the legacy of the Kapoor family, but is also considered a part of the cultural and historical identity of Peshawar. Experts say that if it is not preserved in time, this historical site and the glorious legacy of the Kapoor family will be in danger of being lost.
Meanwhile, the authorities and the local administration have expressed readiness to protect and repair the remaining structures, so that this historic mansion can be saved in the times to come.
