Parthiv Patel Set to Join Gujarat Titans as Batting Coach
Former India wk-batter Parthiv Patel is set to join Gujarat Titans as batting coach for the IPL 2025. Patel will replace Gary Kirsten who was earlier the batting coach and mentor of the side.
Kirsten has left the franchise and joined the Pakistan cricket team as the white-ball head coach. Meanwhile, Vikram Solanki will continue to be the director of cricket.
Previously, Parthiv Patel was associated with Mumbai Indians as a talent scout and was regularly spotted watching domestic fixtures, even the age group ones in the country.
The WK-batter has joined the Mumbai Indians campaign after announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket in December 2020.
He will be a valuable addition to the GT camp who would look to lead the side to title glory. He will be likely to look to form a formidable squad during the IPL 2025 mega auction.
GT had a phenomenal entry into IPL as they secured a title win in 2022 and finished as runners in the 2023 season. During IPL 2024 season they failed to make it to the playoffs.
Hardik Pandya who captained the side in the first two seasons, has been transferred to Mumbai Indians and with injured Mohammed Shami, the side remained unbalanced during the 2024 season.
The team is underway and it will be interesting to see if GT put their weight behind Shami. Shubman Gill will be their top retention as he was promoted as captain last season and wants to continue the partnership with the batter.
With the IPL 2025 mega auction expected to be held on November 24 and 25, BCCI had some apprehension about the dates as the IND vs AUS 1st Test will clash with the IPL mega auction.
Meanwhile, the franchises must submit the retained players list before the deadline set for 5:00 PM IST on October 31.
All the franchises wanted the two-day auction to be held in India, but it was not an option. Now the BCCI is on the verge of finalizing the venue and date for the IPL mega auction so that they can make travel arrangements.
