NZ vs SL: Pathum Nissanka had to give up his stormy innings after completing his half century.
New Delhi: The Sri Lankan team is currently on a tour of New Zealand. After T20, both the teams are face to face in the ODI series. The last match of this 3-match series was played in Auckland. In this match held on Saturday i.e. 11th January, a very bad thing happened to Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka. Taking a single to complete his half century proved costly for him. Due to this, the in-form Nissanka had to leave the field midway through his stormy innings.
What happened to Nissanka?
Sri Lankan team has already lost the series by losing two consecutive matches. Therefore, he decided to give his full strength in the third match also and after winning the toss, decided to bat first. The opening batsmen fully supported this and started batting aggressively from the very first over. Especially Nissanka batted aggressively. He had scored 49 runs in just 29 balls. After this he played a dot ball and tried to complete his half-century by stealing a quick single on the next ball. He completed the run, but it proved fatal for him and he got injured.

Nissanka's pain was so severe that he lay down on the ground. After this the match had to be stopped midway. The physio immediately arrived on the field to examine him. After some treatment, he managed to get up but was not in a position to bat. Therefore, he had to leave his stormy innings of 50 runs in 31 balls in the 10th over and go back to the dressing room. However, after the fall of 4 wickets, Nissanka made a comeback for the team in the 35th over. But this time he could not do anything special. He scored 16 runs in 11 balls and was out after scoring 66 runs in 42 balls.
Sri Lankan team faltered
Sri Lanka's rhythm deteriorated as soon as Pathum Nissanka left. In the very next over, his fellow opener was out after scoring 17 runs in 33 balls. However, after this, Kamendu Mendis and Kusal Mendis together took charge of the innings and made a partnership of 87 runs. After this, the wicket of Kusal Mendis fell on the score of 156.
