Pension Clearance Case: CBI arrests Jammu Junior Assistant for taking bribe via QR code
New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Junior Assistant posted in the office of the Superintending Engineer, PHE Mechanical Urban Circle, Narwal, Jammu, in connection with an alleged bribery case involving the clearance of a pension file.
According to officials, the accused was taken into custody after a trap operation conducted by the CBI following a complaint regarding an alleged demand for illegal gratification.

Complaint Filed Over Pension Case
The agency registered the case on May 24 after receiving a complaint from an individual who alleged that the Junior Assistant had demanded ₹4,500 to process and clear his pension-related matter.
Investigators said the accused had allegedly shared a QR code through WhatsApp to receive the bribe amount digitally. The complaint prompted the anti-corruption agency to initiate verification and organize a trap operation.
CBI Trap Conducted
The CBI laid a trap on May 24 and allegedly caught the accused while receiving the bribe payment from the complainant through the QR code transaction. Following the operation, the agency carried out further procedural formalities before formally arresting the accused on May 25.

Officials said the case highlights the increasing use of digital payment methods in corruption-related activities, which investigators are also monitoring closely during anti-corruption operations.
Investigation Underway
The arrested official is expected to be produced before the competent court as part of the ongoing legal proceedings. CBI officials stated that further investigation is underway to examine all aspects linked to the case, including the processing of the pension file and any possible involvement of others.
