People are disappearing from Balochistan, no one knows anything, family members are getting worried… Know what is the connection with the death squad

New Delhi : The sensitive issue of human rights violations in Balochistan has once again become a topic of discussion at the international level. There are continuous reports of sudden disappearance of civilians from areas like Panjgur and Karachi. Local people claim that security agencies and government-backed armed groups have detained innocent people without any legal process. The sobs of family members wandering in search of their loved ones have now turned into strong protests on the streets.

Scary raid in Panjgur

Let us tell you that a recent military raid in Pulabad area of Panjgur has put the local population in panic. According to eyewitnesses, some unknown gunmen suddenly entered the houses and abducted six people without any warrant. Among them, persons named Inayat and Rashid have been identified, while the whereabouts of the remaining four have not been known yet. All of them have been sent to unknown places, due to which the danger to their lives has deepened.

The growing terror of the death squad

In these kidnappings, the involvement of not only the government security agencies but also the notorious armed groups known as ‘Death Squad’ is coming to light. It is alleged that these groups have the secret support of the government. On February 13, 23-year-old Zulfikar was kidnapped from the market in a similar manner. Zulfikar’s father Hameed and his entire family are now running from pillar to post for justice, but they are not able to get any concrete information from anywhere.

The matter is reaching big cities

This trend of targeting Baloch youth has now reached big cities also. Last year in December, Zakir Noor, a promising student from Panjgur, was forcibly abducted from Karachi. Baloch human rights organization ‘PANK’ condemned the incident and clarified that Zakir was detained without any legal document. This mysterious disappearance of youth who came to the city for education puts a question mark on the future of Balochistan.

Struggle between family members on the streets

Mothers and sisters, holding the photographs of their loved ones close to their chests, have now taken to the streets pleading for justice. From Karachi to remote areas of Panjgur, the wave of protests is not stopping. The protesters demand that if their family members have committed any crime, they should be produced in the court. The silence of the administration and lack of information has further increased the fear of some major untoward incident in the minds of the family members.

global call for justice

This sequence of disappearance of civilians in Balochistan is old, but recent incidents have made the situation explosive. Human rights organizations have appealed to the international community to intervene in this matter and fix accountability. Picking up people without any legal basis is not only a violation of human rights, but is also the main cause of instability in the region. Unless the justice process is transparent, the tears in the eyes of these victims’ families will not dry.
