People are suffering due to extreme heat in Canada. Temperature in Toronto broke 31 year record

Toronto. Scorching heat is currently going on in many parts of Canada, the extreme heat and humidity have increased the problems of the people. The temperature broke old records in many cities of Southern Ontario including Toronto. The temperature in downtown Toronto reached 37.3 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, higher than the 31-year-old record for this time of July.

According to Environment Canada, the highest temperature previously recorded at Toronto Pearson Airport on July 14 was in 1995, when the mercury reached 36.7 degrees Celsius. This time the temperature crossed that level. However, due to intense humidity, people felt the heat to be 40 to 45 degrees Celsius.

  • Heat warning issued in many provinces

Due to the extreme heat, heat warnings were issued for most parts of Ontario. Apart from this, alerts were also issued in many areas of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and Northwest Territories regarding heat and poor air quality. According to meteorologists, due to a large high pressure system formed in America, the temperature in many parts of Canada has reached much above normal. This system has increased the effect of hot air from the upper plains of America to the Great Lakes region and Quebec.

    Air quality concerns with heatwave

In the midst of summer, smoke from forest fires in Western Canada is also a cause of trouble for people. Smoke from forest fires is reaching the areas around Thunder Bay with the wind, due to which the air quality was recorded as poor in some places.

Experts have warned that the combined effect of heat and polluted air can be more dangerous for health. Especially the elderly, children and people with respiratory problems have been advised to take extra precautions.

Doctors in the Northwest Territories have appealed to people to check the air quality index regularly. It is recommended to wear an N95 mask during smoky days, as it is more effective in blocking fine particles present in the air.

Hurricane and tornado alert in Quebec

While a large part of the country is struggling with the heat, a different form of weather was seen in Eastern Canada. Severe storm warnings were issued in Quebec and New Brunswick. Tornado watch was also issued for some time in areas between Montreal and Quebec City.

Cooling centers and public facilities started

To provide relief from the heat, many cities including Ottawa have opened cooling centers and public pools. Some businesses have also decided to temporarily close their operations for the safety of their employees. According to weather experts, the effect of heat and humidity may persist in many areas in the coming days. People have been advised to keep an eye on weather alerts and take precautions during extreme heat.
