People forced to travel risking their lives in the swamp of potholes in Thakurdwara.

Yameen Vikat, Thakurdwara. With the arrival of monsoon, the poor condition of roads in Moradabad district of UP has made life difficult for the common people. The main road from Thakurdwara to Seohara via Sharifnagar seems to be inviting a major accident these days. Big potholes filled with rain water have become a menace for pedestrians and drivers. The situation is such that people are forced to travel on this route, risking their lives. Deep anger is being seen among the local people against the government and administration. Meanwhile, in view of the increasing public despair in the area, local Samajwadi Party MLA Nawab Jan Khan has taken the lead and taken a big step to speed up the road construction file at the government level.

Actually, this road is the main means of transportation between Thakurdwara and Seohara, on which thousands of people travel every day. According to the local people, as soon as the rains started, the condition of the road has become so bad that bike riders and e-rickshaws are turning upside down every day. Pedestrians are getting injured, but the Public Works Department (PWD) is sleeping peacefully. The villagers clearly say that if this dilapidated road is not repaired and widened in time, then some major untoward incident cannot be ruled out.

Crisis on Kanwar Yatra, echo reached Chief Minister portal

This matter is not limited only to daily commuters, but is also related to upcoming religious events. This issue has been raised several times in the past by Sharif Nagar resident and senior advocate Kamal Singh Thakur. At the same time, recently city resident and social worker Rajendra Chandra Pandey has complained about this matter on the Chief Minister Portal (IGRIS) and requested for construction of the road. He says that a large number of Kanwariyas travel through this route during the month of Sawan. This deadly condition of the road can prove to be extremely dangerous even for the holy Kanwar Yatra. Even walking on this path full of mud and debris is difficult.

MLA Nawab Jan Khan wrote a letter to the Principal Secretary, warned

Amidst the increasing problems and anger of the public, Thakurdwara MLA Nawab Jan Khan has started lobbying directly at the government level in this matter. The MLA sent an official letter to the Principal Secretary (Public Works Department) to declare this route as IRQP under the financial year 2026-27. There is a strong demand to give financial approval under the (IRQP) scheme as soon as possible.

Expressing his displeasure over the laxity of the officials, MLA Nawab Jan Khan said that the preliminary estimate for the surface improvement (road construction) of Chainage 86.020 to 105.710 and Chainage 110.710 to 113.020 of Bahsuma Chandpur, Thakurdwara Jaspur State Road No. 147 was prepared long ago (December) by the Chief Engineer, Moradabad region. 2025) Chief Engineer (M-1) has been sent to PWD, Lucknow. But due to some reasons at the government level, its financial approval was pending till now, which should be released immediately.

Public campaign on social media, now hope for solution

Photos and videos related to the current condition of the road are being made viral by the local people on social media so that the seriousness of the problem can reach the public representatives and especially the MPs. People say that unless the road is widened again, this series of accidents will not stop.

At present, after the complaint was registered on the Chief Minister Portal and MLA Nawab Jan Khan wrote a letter to the Principal Secretary at Lucknow level, there is hope among the people of Thakurdwara. Now it remains to be seen when the sleeping Public Works Department takes care of this deadly road and whether people get relief from this hellish journey just before the Kanwar Yatra or not.
