The common consumers of Uttar Pradesh have got another big and strong blow of inflation. The people of Uttar Pradesh, already troubled by the skyrocketing prices of petrol, diesel and CNG, are now facing a severe shock in their electricity bills. Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has increased the fuel surcharge on electricity by full ten percent (10%). You will be surprised to know that this is the biggest and highest increase in fuel surcharge in the history of UP.

This huge increase is going to have a direct impact on the pockets of the general public and the electricity bill coming in the month of June will make people sweat. It is being told that this 10 percent fuel surcharge fee for the month of March will be recovered by directly adding it to the June bill, due to which the monthly budget of middle class families is going to be completely disturbed.

Understand how much the burden on your pocket will increase

If you are wondering how much this new increase will affect your bill, then its mathematics is very simple. After the implementation of this new surcharge, consumers will have to pay Rs 10 extra directly on every Rs 100 electricity bill. That means if your electricity bill used to be Rs 2000, now you will have to pay Rs 200 more for it. What is also surprising is that Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) may increase this fuel surcharge fee further in the coming months.

On the other hand, as soon as this arbitrary decision came to light, the Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Consumers Council has started strongly opposing this increase in electricity bill. UP Electricity Consumer Council Chairman Awadhesh Verma has expressed strong objection to this decision and said that UPPCL itself owes crores of rupees to the consumers. In such a situation, how can such a unilateral increase in electricity bills be done without paying back the money of the consumers? He has made it clear that the Consumer Council will approach the Regulatory Commission against this decision and will strongly oppose it there.

Double blow of expensive electricity amid scorching heat

At present, the entire Uttar Pradesh is facing severe heat and severe electricity crisis. UPPCL’s argument on this whole issue is that the demand for electricity has suddenly increased in summer and the prices of fuel are continuously increasing in the global market. Due to this, the corporation has to buy expensive electricity from outside and it was their compulsion to make this increase to compensate for this loss. However, whatever may be the reason, this whole game is going to directly hit the pockets of the common people of Uttar Pradesh.
