Tariffs, Russian oil and now AI! Trump’s advisor again spews venom against India, are relations with America worsening?

Peter Navarro India criticism over AI ChatGPT: President of America donald trump Peter Navarro, a close aide and his trade advisor, has once again targeted India. This time Navarro raised questions about platforms like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ChatGPT and said that when these AI services are being built on American soil, run on American electricity and resources, then why are American consumers paying for their use in countries like India?

In an interview given on former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon’s show ‘Real America Voice’ peter navarro Said that AI platforms like ChatGPT operate in America, but their major users are in India, China and other countries. Describing it as a serious trade related issue, he said that action should be taken soon.

Tension continues in relations between India and America

These statements of Navarro have come at a time when there is tension in the trade relations between India and America. Negotiations are going on between the two countries regarding a bilateral trade agreement, but in the meantime the Trump administration has imposed tariffs of up to 50 percent on many products coming from India. America alleges that India is indirectly funding Russia’s ‘war machine’ in the Ukraine war by buying oil from Russia.

Navarro also expressed concern about American agricultural land

Peter Navarro not only raised the issue of AI and trade, but also expressed concern about American agricultural land. He alleged that foreign companies and groups are buying agricultural land in America by paying 10 times more than its actual price, due to which there is a danger of food prices increasing within the country in future.

This is not the first time that Navarro has made a scathing attack on India. Even before this he had repeatedly called India ‘Maharaja of Tariffs’. While defending the heavy tariff on Indian imports, he had called it a decision related to ‘national security’ and said that India buying oil from Russia is a serious strategic concern for America.

Navarro has given controversial statements earlier also

Some of Navarro’s statements have been quite controversial in India. He once claimed that the ‘Brahmin’ class in India was taking advantage at the expense of the common people. The Government of India had expressed strong objection to this comment. India’s Foreign Ministry had completely rejected Navarro’s allegations and said that his statements were beyond the facts and misleading. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had clearly said that India’s energy policy is based on market conditions and strategic needs, and not on any external pressure.

Overall, Peter Navarro’s statements on all these issues, AI, tariffs, Russian oil and national security, point towards increasing tension in India-US relations, where signs of conflict are visible on every front, from technology to geopolitics.
