Peter Sutherland’s new job is rife with occupational hazards

The first season of The Night Agent concluded on a thrilling note, with FBI Special Agent Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso) exposing his treacherous boss, Diane Farr (Hong Chau), the White House Chief of Staff. Subsequently, he is appointed as a full-fledged Night Agent to pursue his first mission.

The 10-episode first season of the series was engaging throughout, featuring action sequences and emotional scenes. Following the rave reception of the first season, anticipation for the second season skyrocketed. The second season, which wrapped up filming earlier this year, was primarily shot in New York, with some portions filmed in Thailand and Washington, D.C.

The makers have released a trailer, showcasing Sutherland in a more action-oriented role, unlike his mostly prowling persona in the first season. Season two is expected to focus on a mole within the organisation who leaks crucial American intelligence to enemies, along with experimental explosives, thereby putting the nation at a disadvantage.

As established in the first season, Peter falls in love with Rose Larkin (Luciane Buchanan), for whom he provides security. His emotional relationship with her also becomes a vulnerability as suspicions arise against her. Based on the novel by Matthew Quirk, The Night Agent follows “a low-level FBI agent, Peter Sutherland (Basso), who works in the basement of the White House, manning a phone that never rings—until the night it does, propelling him into a fast-moving and dangerous conspiracy that ultimately leads all the way to the Oval Office.”

The second season of The Night Agent will comprise 10 episodes. Shawn Ryan serves as the series’ creator and showrunner. The series also stars Luciane Buchanan, Fola Evans-Akingbola, Sarah Desjardins, Eve Harlow, Arienne Mandi, Louis Herthum, Berto Colon, and Phoenix Raei, among others. Amanda Warren, Brittany Snow, and Teddy Sears are the newest additions to the cast. The Night Agent Season 2 is set to stream on Netflix on January 23, 2025.
