Stubble will become an alternative to petrol, tension will end with 2G ethanol, both farmers and environment will benefit greatly

Ethanol Fuel India: Ethanol is being seen as a big solution to the increasing consumption of petrol and diesel in India and to reduce the dependence on imports, but now the discussion regarding it is not limited to ethanol only, rather its new and more advanced technology called 2G ethanol is rapidly gaining headlines. Its special thing is that this ethanol is not prepared from grains or sugarcane juice but from agricultural waste saved in the fields.

In such a situation, experts say that 2G ethanol can not only reduce the fuel crisis but can also solve serious environmental problems like stubble burning.

What is 2G ethanol and why is it special?

The first generation ethanol, called 1G Ethanol, is made from sugarcane juice and grains. For this reason, many times questions have been raised regarding food crisis and crop utilization. But the second generation ethanol, which is called 2G Ethanol, is prepared entirely from agricultural residues. It is prepared from agricultural waste like straw, sugarcane bagasse, maize stalk and bamboo and hence this technology does not put any pressure on food security and can also become a source of additional income for farmers.

How is 2G ethanol prepared?

If we look at the process of preparation of 2G ethanol, it is produced using modern technology.

  • First collect agricultural waste
  • cut it into small pieces
  • After this, with the help of special chemical process and enzymes, convert the complex sugar present in it into simple sugar.
  • Then complete the process of fermentation through yeast, which produces alcohol.
  • Finally pure 2G ethanol is obtained through distillation.

Its use is not limited to vehicles only

2G ethanol is not considered a fuel limited to use only in vehicles. It is also being used to make Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) which can reduce carbon emissions from airplanes. Its demand is also quite high in paint, cosmetics, medicines and plastics industries. Apart from this, reports say that bioplastic can also be made from it which is easily destroyed without harming the environment.

Beneficial for both farmers and environment

As everyone knows that every year in India, pollution becomes a big problem due to stubble burning. 2G ethanol technology can turn this agricultural waste into a valuable resource. This will provide additional income to farmers and will also provide relief to the environment.
