Actually, preparations are underway to make ethanol from potatoes, for which the Central Potato Research Institute (CPRI) has prepared a proposal. According to a report by ET, people associated with this matter said that in a proposal of CPRI, a plan has been made to set up a pilot plant to make ethanol from potatoes. The institute will test its technology of making ethanol from potato waste and peels in this plant.

According to reports, ethanol is being considered as a green alternative to fossil fuels like diesel and petrol and many countries are using it on a large scale as biofuel. In India too, ethanol is being blended in petrol and in future ethanol can also be blended in diesel. The government has started thinking about blending ethanol in diesel after petrol.

Let us tell you that at present, ethanol is being produced in India mainly using sugarcane and maize. According to the National Policy on Biofuels, rotten potatoes can be used as feedstock for the production of ethanol. India has the largest network of cold storage for potatoes, from there also a good amount of potato waste can be obtained for the production of ethanol. In such a situation, there is a lot of potential to use it as feed stock in the production of ethanol.
