Petroleum Ministry’s clarification: No new changes in gas refill rules, and no need to panic.
New Delhi, 25 March. The Central Government has issued a clarification on the ongoing news and social media posts regarding change in the refill timeline of LPG cylinder. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has clearly stated that no change has been made in the rules of LPG refill booking and the old system is applicable.
Government rejects claims being made in some social media posts
The Petroleum Ministry said that in some news reports and social media posts, it was being claimed that under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), a new deadline of 45 days for LPG refill booking, 25 days for non-PMUY single cylinder and 35 days for double cylinder has been fixed. The government has termed these claims as completely false and misleading.
Advice to avoid unnecessary booking of gas cylinder in panic
The Ministry clarified that under the existing rules, the time limit for LPG refill booking is 25 days in urban areas and 45 days in rural areas only and it is equally applicable to all types of connections. The government has appealed to the citizens not to believe such rumors nor spread them further. Also, it has been advised to avoid unnecessary booking of gas cylinders in panic.
Adequate stock of LPG available in the country
The Ministry has assured that there is sufficient stock of LPG available in the country and there is no situation of any shortage. The government said all the refineries in the country are working at high capacity and 18,700 tonnes of commercial LPG has been supplied till Monday.
According to Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Petroleum Ministry, there is sufficient stock of petrol and diesel across the country and more than one lakh petrol pumps are operating normally. Along with this, PNG (Piped Natural Gas) connections are being expanded rapidly and 7,500 new connections have been given in just one day.
BPCL statement – Rumors of fuel shortage are baseless
Meanwhile, the country’s leading oil company Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has clarified that the situation is completely normal and there is no shortage of fuel anywhere. BPCL posted on social media platform X and appealed to the citizens not to pay attention to the rumours.
Bharat Petroleum clearly said that there is no shortage of petrol and diesel in the country, adequate stock is available and the supply chain is running smoothly without any hindrance. The company also said that India is a net exporter of petrol and diesel and has adequate reserves of crude oil, petrol, diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF).
BPCL appealed to the people not to rush to petrol pumps in panic and to rely only on official sources. BPCL also assured that it is fully committed to uninterrupted fuel supply.
HPCL assured – its network is fully activated to ensure uninterrupted supply.
Similarly, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) also said in a statement issued on social media that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel and LPG across the country. The company asked customers not to be misled by the rumors and continue using fuel as normal. HPCL assured that its network is fully operational to ensure uninterrupted supply.
