Philippines beat Vietnam on penalties to win first-ever SEA Games women’s football gold

The Philippines claimed their first-ever SEA Games women’s football gold medal after defeating Vietnam in a dramatic penalty shootout.

The final ended goalless after 120 minutes, despite Vietnam largely controlling play and having a legitimate goal wrongly disallowed due to a refereeing error in the first half.

In the shootout, both teams remained level through five rounds before the Philippines converted the decisive sixth penalty.

Although Vietnam were edged out, their players earned praise for a strong performance throughout the final.
