Taking phone to school will be costly, affecting children’s education and brain, ban increased across the world
Phone Ban In Different Country: In today’s digital era, smartphones have become a part of children’s lives, but its impact is now becoming worrying. Due to continuously increasing mobile use, children’s attention in studies is decreasing and their mental health is also getting affected. For this reason, the trend of banning phones in schools across the world is increasing rapidly.
Schools ban phones in 58% countries
According to the latest report of UNICEF, mobile phones have been banned in schools in about 58% of the countries of the world. This figure has increased rapidly, there was a ban in only 24% of the countries in 2023, 40% in the beginning of 2025 and now it has reached 58% in 2026. This clearly shows that schools are now becoming more strict regarding the education and behavior of children.
Big reason for phone ban in schools
The biggest reason for banning phones is to distract children. The habit of watching social media, games and videos during class is becoming a hindrance in studies. Apart from this, this step is also being taken to protect children from cyber bullying, online fraud and wrong content. The countries of Central and South Asia are at the forefront in this matter, whereas less strictness is seen in countries like Australia and New Zealand.
Effect of phone ban on children
According to reports, where strict restrictions were imposed on phones, mobile usage during school time dropped from 37% to just 4%. Teachers also felt the change:
- children started talking to each other more
- outdoor activity increased
- increased interest in reading books
However, this change is not uniform everywhere. About one-third of teachers considered it positive, while 64% said it did not make much difference.

Increasing danger from social media
A major reason for phone ban on children is the increasing influence of social media. According to reports, girls especially have to face online harassment and social pressure. A report revealed that 32% of teenage girls felt bad about their bodies after using Instagram. At the same time, platforms like TikTok start showing content related to body image every 39 seconds and things related to eating disorders within a few minutes, which is dangerous for the mental health of children.
pay attention
The decision to ban phones in schools is not just for discipline, but for the better future of the children. If it is not controlled at the right time, it can have an even deeper impact on children’s education, behavior and mental health.
