Kem Beach on Vietnam’s largest island Phu Quoc off the southern coast has been named the world’s leading regional beach at this year’s World Travel Awards.
The beach triumphed over six competitors, including Cambodia’s Lazy Beach and New Zealand’s Wharariki Beach to claim the title as announced during a ceremony in Bahrain on Dec. 6.
Located in the south of Phu Quoc Island, about 25 km from Duong Dong Ward, Kem Beach has an average of 154 sunny days and an average temperature of 23 degrees Celsius.
The beach offers a variety of experiences all day such as volleyball, kayaking, swimming for early mornings to parasailing, canoeing and banana buoys for cool afternoons.
Several luxury resorts are located close to the beach, making it convenient for tourists.
Canada’s online travel agency Flight Network named Kem Beach as one of the 50 most beautiful beaches in the world in 2018, thanks to its terrain, scenery, and climate.
The World Travel Awards, established in 1993, celebrate excellence in the travel and tourism industry and are referred to as the “Oscars of the travel industry.”
Winners are determined through votes cast by travel professionals and the public.
