Vietnam’s largest island Phu Quoc has overtaken Maldives to be voted Asia’s second best island after Bali as part of leading travel magazine DestinAsian’s Readers’ Choice Awards 2026.

Phu Quoc has marked a steady progression: from the 6th place in 2024 to 5th in 2025, and the runner-up in 2026.

Specialists at DestinAsian have praised the island’s metamorphosis. The magazine asserted that Phu Quoc represents “the new era of tropical splendor.”

The awards are decided entirely by votes of millions of readers worldwide.

These voters are high-end travelers (businesspeople, investors, and experiential travel enthusiasts) known for their discerning standards regarding landscapes, ecosystems, infrastructure, and services.

Phu Quoc welcomed more than 2.2 million visitors in the first two months of 2026, up 57.7% year on year, with international arrivals soaring 86.4% to nearly 600,000.

The Vietnam’s largest island expects to receive 8.5 million tourists this year, up 5% from last year, including two million foreigners, an 11% increase.
