Pistachio Gardening: Can precious pistachio grow in a pot at home? Know the easiest way to grow plants from seeds
News India Live, Digital Desk: Pistachios hold their special place among dry fruits, but have you ever thought that you can grow it in your garden or balcony too? Although pistachio is primarily a plant of dry and hot climates, it is possible to grow it at home with the right technique and patience. If you are also fond of gardening, then you can grow a pistachio plant in your home by following these easy steps. Necessary materials for growing pistachios: Raw pistachio seeds: Keep in mind that the pistachios should not be roasted or salted. You will need completely raw and peeled seeds. Soil: Sandy and well-drained soil (Sandy Loam Soil). Pot: At least 12 to 15 inches deep pot. Method of preparing a plant from seeds (Step-by-Step) Soaking the seeds: First of all, soak the raw pistachio seeds in a glass of water overnight (about 12-15 hours). This will soften the outer covering of the seeds. Germination: Wrap the soaked seeds in a wet paper towel or cotton cloth and keep them in an airtight container. Leave it in a dark and slightly warm place for 5-7 days. When white roots start emerging from the seeds, they are ready to be sown. Soil Preparation: Pistachios do not like waterlogging. Therefore, mix 40% sand, 40% normal soil and 20% vermicompost or cow dung manure in the soil. Planting: Plant the germinated seeds in the pot at a depth of about 1 inch. Keep in mind that the germinated part (root) should be downwards. Put light soil on top and water it with a spray bottle. How to take care of pistachio plant? Sunlight: Pistachio plant needs plenty of sunlight to flourish. Keep it in a place where it gets direct sunlight for 6-8 hours a day. Watering: Water only when the soil is completely dry. Excessive watering can cause its roots to rot. Patience is necessary: The pistachio plant grows slowly. It may take 5 to 7 years for the seed to grow into a plant and bear fruit. Special Tip: The game of male and female Pistachio plants are ‘dioecious’, that is, to get the fruit you will need both male and female plants. If you are growing only for decoration, then one plant is enough, but for fruits it is better to plant at least two-three plants.
