Pistons Unlikely to Trade Down, Expected to Keep No. 21 Pick in NBA Draft
The Detroit Pistons are reportedly expected to keep their current first-round position rather than trade down in the 2026 NBA Draft. According to recent reports, Detroit’s front office does not anticipate selecting any lower than its current No. 21 pick, signaling confidence in the talent available at that spot.
Pistons president of basketball operations Trajan Langdon indicated that the organization is focused on finding a player who can contribute to the team’s continued growth rather than moving back in the draft order. While Detroit remains open to opportunities that could improve the roster, a trade down appears unlikely at this stage.
The Pistons enter the draft after a successful season that saw them emerge as a playoff contender around franchise star Cade Cunningham. With the No. 21 selection, Detroit is expected to target a wing, shooter, or versatile frontcourt player who can complement its young core. Several mock drafts have linked prospects such as Cameron Carr and Morez Johnson to the Pistons.
Detroit’s front office believes quality talent will still be available at No. 21, reducing the incentive to move back for additional assets. However, the team could still explore trade-up scenarios if a highly rated prospect unexpectedly slides down the board.
With the NBA Draft approaching, all indications suggest the Pistons are preparing to make their selection at No. 21 and add another young piece to a roster that is aiming to build on last season’s progress.
