Pitbull bit the ear of a 6 year old child, Delhi High Court is strict in the case, the court gave orders to MCD
Delhi High Court has ordered the police to take swift action against the FIR in the case related to the attack of a pitbull dog on a six-year-old child. The child’s left ear was seriously injured in the attack. The father of the injured child has demanded a compensation of at least Rs 25 lakh from the court. During the hearing in Delhi High Court, MCD’s lawyer told the court that the pitbull was seized on November 24 with the consent of the dog’s owner. He said that the corporation took immediate action as soon as the complaint was received. The lawyer also told the court that this pet dog was kept without registration, which is a violation of the law.
Court gave order to MCD
Justice Sachin Dutta, who was hearing the case, while granting interim relief, directed the MCD not to release the dog until it is ensured that such an incident does not happen again in future. The court said in oral remarks that the responsibility for compensation lies more with the dog owner than with the government.
High Court expressed displeasure on Delhi Government
Delhi government’s lawyer said in Delhi High Court that compensation should be given to the culprit only. On this, the court reprimanded the government and said that concrete steps need to be taken in collaboration with MCD to stop such attacks. The petition claimed that this is not the first case. The same pitbull had bitten many people earlier also, but no action was taken on the complaints lodged with the police.
The lawyer told in Delhi High Court that the child’s father works on daily wages and earns about 10 to 12 thousand rupees a month. Considering the expenses of treatment and medicines, he has demanded compensation from the government. The court has directed the police to submit a detailed status report by March 2026. Apart from this, notices have been issued to the dog owner, Delhi Police Commissioner, concerned ACP, SHO and Safdarjung Hospital. After the High Court order, it will be important to see what steps the Delhi government takes regarding compensation.
