Players in Bangladesh rebel against cricket board, notice issued against BCB Chief Nazmul

T20 World Cup 2026: There is a big uproar in Bangladesh cricket these days. The tension between the players and the board has increased so much that Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had to issue a show cause notice against its own director M. Nazmul Islam. Angered by Nazmul’s controversial statements, the players have threatened to boycott all cricket activities including BPL, due to which the board is completely on the back foot.

beginning of controversy

It all started when Nazmul Islam targeted the players in a recent statement. He said that if Bangladesh does not go to India for the T20 World Cup 2026, the players will not get any compensation. Nazmul also said that the board has spent a lot on players, but they have not been able to achieve any major victory at the global level. Therefore players should not expect compensation.

Even before this, Nazmul had created controversy by calling former captain Tamim Iqbal an ‘agent of India’. Tamim had advised to resolve the ongoing standoff with India peacefully, but this attack by Nazmul infuriated the entire cricket world.

Players got angry

Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) termed Nazmul’s statements as completely condemnable. Association President Mohammad Mithun said that these comments are against the honor of the players. He clearly said that until Nazmul resigns, the players will boycott BPL and all other cricket matches.

The effect of this threat was immediately visible and in a BPL match (Noakhali Express vs Chittagong Royals) in Dhaka on Thursday, even the toss could not take place as both the teams did not reach the field. Before this, many matches of Dhaka Cricket League were also affected. The players are united and putting pressure on the board.

BCB’s defense and action

The board issued a press release in an attempt to handle the situation. It said that BCB regrets Nazmul’s objectionable statements. The Board clarified that these statements do not reflect the official stand of the Board.

BCB further informed that disciplinary action has been initiated against Nazmul Islam. A show cause notice has been issued to him and a written reply has been sought within 48 hours. The board has appealed to the players to show professionalism and cooperate in successfully completing the BPL. The board says that players are the life of cricket and BPL is the biggest domestic league in the country.

Background of dispute with India

All this big controversy is related to the ongoing tension with India. Bangladesh has demanded to shift its four matches of the T20 World Cup to be held in India to Sri Lanka due to security concerns. However ICC is not ready on this.

Apart from this, fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman was dropped from the IPL on the instructions of BCCI, which increased the feeling of insecurity among the players. BCB is continuously talking with ICC, but no solution has been found at present. In such a situation, Nazmul’s statement added fuel to the fire.
