Players taking the most wickets in a series in T20 World Cup

New Delhi, 12 January 2026: Bowlers have always played an important role in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. In this tournament, many bowlers have changed the course of the match and created history with their performances in a single series. The list of bowlers taking the most wickets in the T20 World Cup series is a proof of which players have been successful in proving themselves in the big stage of pressure.

Fazalhaq Farooqui – Afghanistan

Afghanistan’s fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqui surprised everyone in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 (USA/West Indies). He finished as the leading wicket taker of the tournament with 17 wickets in eight matches. Farooqui’s best performance was 5 wickets for 9 runs. His average was only 9.41, which is considered exceptional in T20 cricket. His bowling helped Afghanistan gain a strong position in many matches.

Arshdeep Singh – India

In the same World Cup of 2024, Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh took 17 wickets in 8 matches. His best performance was 4 wickets for 9 runs. Arshdeep bowled brilliantly in both the new ball and death overs. His strike rate was 10.58, which shows that he kept taking wickets at regular intervals.

Wanindu Hasaranga – Sri Lanka

In the ICC T20 World Cup 2021/22 (Oman/UAE), Sri Lankan leg-spinner Wanindu Hasranga took 16 wickets in eight matches. His economy rate was only 5.20, which is a significant achievement for a spin bowler in the T20 format. Hasranga did not give the batsmen the opportunity to play freely in the middle overs.

India’s Jasprit Bumrah took 15 wickets in 8 matches in the 2024 T20 World Cup. His best performance was 3 wickets for just 7 runs. Bumrah’s economy rate was 4.17, which is excellent in this format. His line-length and yorker balls were a big challenge for the batsmen.

Ajantha Mendis – Sri Lanka

In the ICC World T20 2012/13 (Sri Lanka), Ajantha Mendis surprised everyone by taking 15 wickets in just six matches. His best performance was 6 wickets for 8 runs. Mendis’s mysterious spin had created confusion for the batsmen at that time.
