The complainant alleges that an organized conspiracy has been hatched through these accounts to tarnish the image of PM Modi. An attempt has been made to present the Prime Minister in a wrong and misleading manner in the controversial videos and photographs prepared with AI technology, which can create a situation of disharmony, disturbance and peace in the society.
How did fake photos and videos go viral?
According to Devendra Bisht, many social media accounts were sharing morphed photos and videos of Prime Minister Modi. In some posts the PM is shown ‘selling tea’, in some ‘looking like a body builder with his shirt off’ and in some as ‘the bodyguard behind Russian President Vladimir Putin’. It was said in the complaint that the photos and videos of the PM have been tampered with through these accounts… all this is part of a deep conspiracy.”
Allegations of conspiracy on unknown accounts
Complainant Devendra Bisht said that all these accounts are operated by unknown persons and their aim is to mislead the public, spread falsehood and incite sentiments. He said that these posts are trying to disturb social peace by hurting people’s sentiments and increasing hatred between different groups.
Anger among BJP workers, allegations of ‘attempt to incite trouble’
BJYM city president Bisht said that such videos and pictures can promote hatred and unrest in the society. He demanded that action should be taken against the accused under serious sections of the IT Act including defamation.
Police action, 18 accounts book, cyber cell engaged in investigation
Basant Vihar police station incharge Ashok Rathore said that a case has been registered against all the 18 accounts. He said that an FIR has been registered. The cyber team will investigate the matter.” Apart from this, a case has already been registered against a similar objectionable post in the Cyber Police Station a few days ago.
Big question on misuse of digital technology
The case has once again raised serious questions on the misuse of AI technology, digital ethics and the regulatory system of social media. The police is now taking the investigation forward on the basis of location, IP tracking and content monitoring of these accounts.
