Modi said this in his address at an event organized at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in the capital after launching the scheme to include citizens aged 70 years and above in the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. This scheme will make health facilities accessible to senior citizens of all income groups.
He said, “I apologize to every elderly person above 70 years of age in Delhi and West Bengal that I will not be able to serve you. I will know that you are suffering, but I will not be able to help you.

He said, “I am able to serve the people of the country but the walls of political interests are stopping me from serving the elders of Delhi and West Bengal. After inaugurating and laying the foundation stone of several health sector-related projects worth about Rs 12,850 crore on the occasion of Dhanvantari Jayanti and 9th Ayurveda Day, Modi said that during this year's general elections he had promised that people aged 70 years and above would People will be brought under Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance Scheme.

Modi said that he will not rest until the poor and middle class of the country are freed from the burden of expensive treatment.
He said that about four crore poor people have availed benefits under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY). He said, “If this scheme was not there, they (the poor) would have had to spend about Rs 1.25 lakh crore from their own pockets.” He said, “I often interact with the beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat scheme and know about their experiences. He said that no such beneficial scheme existed in the past. Modi said there are more than 14,000 Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Kendras operating across the country, where medicines are available at 80 percent discount.
He said that due to these Jan Aushadhi Kendras, the poor and middle class have been able to save Rs 30,000 crore due to the availability of affordable medicines.
Similarly, prices of devices like stents and knee implants have been reduced, leading to savings of over Rs 80,000 crore by common citizens, he said.
He also mentioned that the Free Dialysis Scheme and Mission Indradhanush campaign are preventing fatal diseases and saving lives of pregnant women and newborn babies.
Modi stressed the importance of timely diagnosis to reduce the risks and inconveniences associated with diseases.
He highlighted that more than two lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs have been set up across the country to facilitate early diagnosis and treatment.
He said that these Arogya Mandirs enable crores of citizens to easily get themselves screened for diseases like cancer, hypertension and diabetes. He said timely diagnosis leads to prompt treatment, ultimately saving costs for patients.
The Prime Minister explained that the government is leveraging technology to enhance healthcare and save citizens money under the e-Sanjeevani scheme, where more than 30 crore people have consulted doctors online.
Launching the U-WIN platform, Modi said it will provide India with a technologically advanced facility in the health sector. He said, “The world saw the success of our Co-WIN platform during the pandemic and the success of the UPI payment system.” It has become a global story.
Referring to various steps taken by the government in the health sector, he said that India aims to replicate this success in the healthcare sector through digital public infrastructure.(pti)
