New Delhi, 21 December. Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked the people of Maharashtra for supporting the Bharatiya Janata Party and its led Mahayuti alliance in the Maharashtra local body elections, saying it reflected their faith in people-centric development.

Maximum 118 seats in BJP’s account
Mahayuti captured 214 seats out of a total of 288 seats in the Maharashtra civic elections. Among these, BJP emerged as the largest party with 118 seats. At the same time, among the other two allies of Mahayuti, Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena has won 59 seats and NCP (Ajit Pawar) has won 37 seats. On the other hand, the opposition alliance Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) was reduced to 49 seats. Of these, Congress had to be content with 32 seats, Shiv Sena (Ubhatha) with nine and Sharad Pawar’s NCP with eight.
