PM Modi Foreign Visit: PM Modi returned home after completing his visit to 5 countries including Italy, received two highest honors
New Delhi, 21 May. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has returned to the capital Delhi this morning after completing his very important and busy diplomatic tour of 5 countries. During this visit, which started from May 15 to May 20, the Prime Minister visited the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy. The Prime Minister started his foreign tour from UAE on 15 May and completed its last stop in Italy on 20 May.
This was a diplomatic initiative that was watched by the entire world and was aimed at strengthening India’s global partnerships. The main strategic objectives of this visit were to ensure long-term energy supply, increase cooperation in the field of technology and further improve India’s economic and strategic relations with European and West Asian partners.
UAE: Energy security and big investment
In UAE, India signed several important agreements to ensure long-term LPG supply and strengthen strategic petroleum reserves. Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) was also allowed to increase its crude oil storage capacity in India to 30 million barrels. Apart from this, UAE also promised to invest 5 billion US dollars in India.
Netherlands: 17 agreements on green energy and flood control
India and the Netherlands signed 17 agreements including initiatives on defense cooperation, critical minerals and green hydrogen. During this visit, PM Modi also visited the Afsluitdijk Dam to understand the expertise of the Netherlands in flood control and water management systems.
Sweden: strategic partnership and highest honor
During his visit to Sweden from 17 to 18 May, India and Sweden elevated their bilateral relations to the level of ‘strategic partnership’. Prime Minister Modi also addressed the ‘European Round Table for Industry’ along with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and was awarded Sweden’s prestigious Royal Order of the Polar Star, Degree Commander Grand Cross.
Norway: After 43 years an Indian PM reached Oslo
Prime Minister Modi reached Norway on 19 May. This was the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Norway in 43 years. He participated in the 3rd ‘India-Nordic Summit’ held in Oslo where he discussed enhancing cooperation in areas such as green technology and Artificial Intelligence with the leaders of Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland and Sweden. He was also awarded the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit.
During PM Modi’s visit to Italy, the two countries elevated their bilateral relations to the level of ‘Special Strategic Partnership’ with the aim of increasing mutual trade to Euro 20 billion by 2029. The two sides signed agreements related to agriculture, prevention of financial crimes and Indian health professionals working in Italy.
Cooperation on the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) was also taken forward through high-level discussions with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The visit underlined India’s growing diplomatic engagement with key global partners, with special emphasis on energy security, innovation, climate cooperation and expanded trade ties across sectors.
