It is noteworthy that on Wednesday (October 30), a historic festival was celebrated in Ayodhya on the occasion of Diwali, where more than 25 lakh earthen lamps were lit simultaneously and 1,121 'Vedacharyas' (teachers of religious texts) performed aarti simultaneously. The Ayodhya district administration, in collaboration with the Tourism Department of the Government of Uttar Pradesh, organized the Deepotsav program for the eighth consecutive year, in which the Saryu river in the holy city of Ayodhya was illuminated with more than 25 lakh lamps.
It is worth noting that although Deepotsav has been celebrated in Ayodhya for years, this festival of 2024 holds special significance, because two Guinness World Records were made on this occasion. The first record was of 1,121 people performing Saryu Aarti together, and the second was of 2,512,585 lamps being lit.
Guinness World Records adjudicator Praveen Patel, who visited Ayodhya along with Guinness consultant Nischal Bharot for verification, announced the new record on Wednesday evening.
Patel said, “With a total of 1,121 people, UP Tourism, Ayodhya District Administration and Saryu Aarti Committee, you are the title holders of the Guinness World Records for the most number of people rotating the lamp together. Congratulations!”
Regarding the second record, the Guinness adjudicator said, “With a total of 2,512,585 (which is equivalent to approximately Rs. 25 lakh), UP Tourism, UP Government, Ayodhya District Administration and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, have created the largest number of oil lamps. The holders of the new Guinness World Records for performance!”
