PM Modi has compromised, his betrayal has now been exposed’, Congress
Bureau Prayagraj- Citing the US Supreme Court decision, the Congress on Saturday claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi cannot renegotiate the trade deal with the US and will surrender again.
The US Supreme Court on Friday rejected President Donald Trump’s global tariff, dealing a major blow to Trump’s economic agenda. The justices said in the majority decision that the Constitution very clearly gives the US Congress (Parliament) the power to impose taxes, including tariffs.
Former party president Rahul Gandhi posted on social media platform ‘X’, “The Prime Minister has compromised. His betrayal has now been exposed. He can’t renegotiate (the trade deal). He will surrender again.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge posted on ‘X’, “Headless foreign policy or unilateral surrender? Why did the Modi government not wait for the US Supreme Court’s decision on tariffs before getting trapped in the “trap deal” that extracted huge concessions from India?
He said, “The joint statement calls for zero duty on many American exports to India, which will open the doors of the Indian agricultural sector to American goods. Also, a plan to import US goods worth US$ 500 billion, a commitment to stop the purchase of Russian oil that threatens our energy security, and several tax concessions on the digital front, the joint statement said.
He said, “The Prime Minister should tell who pressured him to compromise on India’s national interest and strategic autonomy?” Was it the Epstein files?” He asked whether the Indian government will wake up from its deep slumber and make a fair trade agreement that will protect the self-respect of 140 crore Indian citizens and the interests of our farmers, workers, small businesses and traders?
Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh claimed that this agreement has become like a tough test which the country is facing due to the surrender of the Prime Minister. Citing the decision of the US Supreme Court, Ramesh also asked what was the compulsion that Prime Minister Modi ensured that President Donald Trump announces the India-US trade agreement on the night of February 2, 2026?
