PM Modi laid foundation stone of development projects worth Rs 24 thousand crore in Silchar, targeted Congress
Silchar. On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of ambitious development projects worth Rs 24 thousand crore in Silchar, Assam. In his address on this occasion, PM Modi, highlighting the special identity of Barak Valley and its strategic importance, said, “Silchar is called the Gateway of Barak Valley. This region has been the center of language, culture and economic activities. The fertile plains and tea gardens of the Barak River have always inspired the farmers, trade routes and educational institutions here.”
Barak Valley will become the logistics hub of North East-
The Prime Minister performed the bhoomi pujan of the 166 km long Silchar-Shillong corridor, the total cost of which is approximately Rs 22,860 crore. After its completion, the travel time between Guwahati and Silchar will reduce from eight and a half hours to just five hours. PM Modi said, “Every project in the railway, agriculture and forest sectors is contributing to making Barak Valley a major logistics and trade hub of the North East. This will create countless employment opportunities for the youth.”
Connectivity from Barak Valley to South East Asia-
The Prime Minister said that this corridor will connect several north-eastern states—Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura—and further open trade routes to Bangladesh and Myanmar. “This project will strengthen connectivity, boost tourism and ensure economic development of the entire region. It will open up opportunities for farmers and youth,” he said.
Target on Congress-
Attacking Congress, PM Modi said that earlier governments kept the North East away from Delhi and its heart. He said, “Congress made Assam a laboratory of ‘divide and rule’ policy. Border areas and youth were only entangled in violence and terrorism. But BJP’s double engine government has kept these areas at the center of the country’s development. Now every state is teaching Congress a lesson.”
PM Modi also emphasized on the occasion that this modern corridor of Barak Valley holds historical importance not only for regional development but also for strengthening the entire North East and India’s Act East policy.
