PM Modi especially praised Jayalalitha ji’s efforts for women empowerment. He said that our Nari Shakti’s association with him has been even more special, because while in the government, he made many commendable and concrete efforts for the mothers, sisters and daughters. It was the result of Amma’s foresight that she implemented such schemes in Tamil Nadu, which positively improved the standard of living of women. Because of this dedication, the women of Tamil Nadu still consider him as their Messiah.

Mention of oath taking ceremony of Gujarat

Sharing his personal experiences, the Prime Minister said that every meeting and conversation with Amma Jayalalitha is still fresh in his mind. He shared an unheard anecdote that when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Jayalalitha had specially come to Gujarat to attend his swearing-in ceremonies in 2002 and 2012. The PM told that when both of them were the Chief Ministers of their respective states, there was often discussion between them about ‘good governance’ There used to be detailed discussions on serious topics like (good governance). He described Amma as a leader whose thinking was very clear and her thoughts were very resolved.

Sharing a memory from many years ago, Prime Minister Modi said that Jayalalitha ji had invited him for lunch in Chennai on the auspicious occasion of Pongal. Recalling that moment, he said that Amma’s loving gesture will always be unforgettable for him. Praising Jayalalitha ji’s legacy, the PM said that her clarity of thinking was one of her greatest qualities.

A look at Jayalalitha’s political journey

J. Jayalalitha was born on 24 February 1948 in Melkote, Karnataka. Had she been alive today, she would have been 78 years old, but she died in December 2016 in Chennai at the age of 67. A huge crowd had gathered at his funeral. Born as Jayalalitha Jayaram, this leader was affectionately called ‘Amma’ and ‘Thalaivi’ by her supporters.

After a successful career in the film world, he entered politics and made a strong hold. In 1989, she became the head of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). After this, she became the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the first time in 1991. Overall, she was successful in taking charge of the state six times – 1991, 2001, 2002, 2011, 2015 and 2016 and remained influential in the politics of the state for a long time.
